The country's most prestigious international film platform, created in 1953 by a group of San Sebastián traders to prolong the summer season, is run by a consortium of local, regional and national authorities. In 1957 it was granted the A category by the IFFPA (International Federation of Film Producers Associations). The main prizes in the Crystal Palace ceremony of awards are the Golden Shell and the Jury's Grand Prize (films), the Silver Shells (direction and individual performances), and the Donostia and Euskal Media Prizes (for a career in the cinema and a new director, respectively).
